New CHEMO/ Ros returns to hospital

Ros had her regular and ongoing tests, as well as her followup with Dr James (her oncologist). He felt that a new chemo regime was warranted, with different agents. This was only if Ros agreed to try this. She agreed, and the new chemotherapy happened on Wednesday... the first day of Spring 2010. The day after chemo is usually a quiet day for Ros. She normally has a headache, and lays low on that day. This Thursday, Ros was particularly nauseated, and vomiting also. She was in no mood to talk on Thursday afternoon. She felt "pretty sick". So much so that Dave took her to Ringwood Private hospital on Thursday night and she was admitted for rehydration. IV fluids and anti emetics helped to restore Ros' health to a far more tolerable level. She was feeling a good deal better throughout Friday and began to eat a small amount. Still in hospital on Saturday. Her IV was removed. She was HUNGRY and eating again. Still in hospital, awaiting Dr's review. On the phone, she sounded a lot chirpier. We will be seeing Ros again in 3 or so weeks' time.

  1. Thanks Kathy, for documenting this journey that we're on.

I returned home from hospital, today (Sunday), feeling so much better.

There will still be nausea, because that's a side-effect of the chemo; but there are tablets to counteract that, then tablets to counteract the side-effects of the anti-nausea drugs ;-)
Not having been much of a pill-taker in the past, all this is a leap of faith.

I believe that God is looking after me through all this, and will work through the oncologist to the best possible outcome.

I think I responded fairly well with my first chemo course, and my slightly modified course (without the oxaliplatin). My body fought back pretty well, until the cncer cells found a work-around to continue their growth.

I'm hopeful that my body can deal with this next course of Camptosar® (http://www.chemocare.com/BIO/camptosar.asp) and Xeloda® (http://www.chemocare.com/BIO/xeloda.asp).

Also, I picked up a brochure from Celebrity Wigs, and there's one called Delta (http://store.cyberstore.com.au/cgi-bin/celebritywigs/00456.html). I can't remember exactly what Delta's hair looked like, but just that it suited her - short.

  2. Good things to look forward to on this journey. Feeling as well as you can = top priority. Looking sensational with a "new haircut" is good too. Knowing you're being "looked after" is a comfort too. Enjoy the ride...

  3. Ha ha! I was having a go at you, off-line, about your spelling, when I just noticed that I too can make mistakes.

A friend of ours once had a saying:
"Once I thought I made a mistake, but I was wrong!". It always made me laugh :-)

You'll be pleased to see that I'm now a follower of your blog. So you have one fan who's crawled out of the woodwork.
